Sometimes the Funny Man Cries

Hey, kids, it’s Dad. Today I want to talk about my good friend John and the things I have learned as he dealt with a personal tragedy in his life. John just lost his dear mother to cancer and I’m lucky enough to have been in his circle of friends to be there along with his journey. John is one of the funniest people I know but this week I saw a different side of him. I saw pain, I saw sadness and I saw tears. I saw a side of him I have never seen in the past 25+ years. Sometimes even the funniest of people cry and you need to know how to handle that. It caught me off guard at first, and I’m thankful I was there. There to help comfort and help maybe be some relief from a super painful moment. No one is ever prepared for the loss of a loved one.

John thank you. Thank you for allowing me in the circle and for showing me a different side of you.

Kids – we all need to be a little more like John. This world needs more people like John in it!

The Company You Keep!

Hey, kids, it’s Dad. and for today’s Tommy log I want to talk to you about my 50th birthday party and all the amazing friends I have.
It makes me quite emotional thinking about all the wonderful people that surround me and take care of me.

In Proverbs 13 verse 20 it says “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.”

Translated into today’s speak – “You will be known by the company you keep.”

I am so blessed!!! Thank you for being my friends!

Dinner 10 Years in the Making

Hey, kids, it’s Dad. and for today’s Tommy log I’m so excited. I can’t believe it. Social media is such an amazing tool. Let me explain.

Nearly 10 years ago while using Twitter I saw a request looking for someone who could help edit videos. I replied to that request. A business transaction took place. I digitally met Kelli Claypool and I have been friends. We have been chatting back-and-forth on social media for almost 10 years. Two weeks ago I had the opportunity to meet her in person. The stars aligned and she was interviewing for a position at the company that I work for. How awesome is that! We had the opportunity to meet and go to dinner and have ice cream and talk and talk and talk. We talked about relationships, we talked about our families. We talked about her being a cancer survivor. It was absolutely over the moon amazing. How do these things happen? I have no idea! But what I knew do know is that social media fosters amazing relationships.

Kids, social media is different today than it was 10 years ago. No doubt about that. But when used properly, great things can happen. Never overlook the opportunity to make relationships. You never know!

TommyLog – Things Just Don’t Happen

Hey Kids it’s Dad. Today I’m uploading a video I taped in Phoenix, AZ last year.

I went to Phoenix to meet a long time social media friend and to teach a class with some of her real estate colleagues. I met her family and we broke bread together. We went family grocery shopping together. We’re teaching a class together. How does this happen?
How do you go from social media friends to business partners? How does something like this happen? It doesn’t! The man upstairs has a plan. If you think for a second that all these pieces of the puzzle just happen to come together – – you’re not paying attention.

The good Lord knows exactly what he’s doing! It’s our job to pay attention and to highlight these things. Things don’t just happen!
