TommyLog – Helping Others to SOAR #Giveback

SOAR Bowling GroupFor today’s TommyLog, and for the Christmas and holiday season, I was asked to talk about a topic that we are passionate about with regards to giving back. My mind immediately was drawn my service work with the great people at SOAR formally the ARC of the Fox Cities. I spend many Saturday mornings “coaching” their members for bowling and it is JUST AMAZING! Giving back rocks and fits so well into one of my motto’s

“And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.”

The adults that I work with from SOAR do more for me than I could ever do for them.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to working with some of the adults with the ARC of the Fox Cities and boy what a blessing. We went to Saber lanes in Menasha and I was their main cheerleader while they bowled.

What a total blessing to be able to be with those unique individuals and see their smiles and to help them…well it seemed like I was helping them, but they were actually helping me. You see the way I look at it it this. The didn’t really need my help to be happy..they were happy way before I got there…I needed them to be happy and for 2 hours, I forgot all abot the cares of the world and focused on something much more important… others.
