TommyLog TECH – Lights, Camera, Emma! #VZWBuzz #ad

Hey Kids it’s Tommy and today I’m joined by my tech partner in crime Emma. Today we want, well mostly Emma since I can’t get a word in edgewise- to talk about how Emma uses Samsung Phones to film her own videos.

Emma has the most vivid imagination of any 8-year-old child I have ever met. She loves to create scenes with her Littlest Pet Shop characters or more commonly called LPS in the kid inner circle. Emma one day picked up my Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S7 edge smart phones and the creativity just started flowing. So this kid with ZERO training starts filming 5, 10 even 15 minute videos all on her own; complete with script, dialog, hand painted characters and sets. I’m totally blown away at what she can accomplish! 1 video turned into 5 which turned into 20 – I think her total video count is somewhere close to 50 custom Emma videos uploaded to her own YouTube channel.

To help her with her filming, I got her a Joby GorillaPod tripod  (similar) as well as a tripod mount to hold smartphones.

TommyLog TECH – Help to the Rescue with Samsung+ #VZWBuzz #ad

Hey Kids it’s Tommy and for today’s Tommy log Tech, I want to talk to you about a great app I stumbled upon when poking around on my brand-new Samsung Galaxy S7 edge smart phone – – provided to me by my great friends of Verizon, my opinions on my own. If you recall, it’s been a few weeks since I got my new S7 edge and did the unboxing video for you  –and I’ve had loads of playtime with it. In my poking exploring, I stumbled upon the best self-help tool. This app is called Samsung+. Many smart phones come with apps that teach you how to use its amazing new features. And the Samsung+ app does just that. There’s a getting started area, there’s self help videos on how to use things like Samsung Pay or Galaxy Gear. There’s an area that shows you additional features like transferring your data from your old phone, or how to use the fast charging.

But the one thing that sets it apart from all other self-help apps that I’ve seen before, is the area called Active Help. Active Help has some amazing tools to help you when you need it most. Active Help allows you to search for known problems in its database. It has a built in scanning tool that scans your phone for issues like battery health, charging issues, free space on your storage – even looks for security issues with your Wi-Fi or if your phone has been rooted. This app is pretty amazing.

The Active Help portion of this app also allows you to initiate a tech-support phone call right from within the app. Not only can you make a phone call, you can open a 2-way video chat with a tech-support person at Samsung. I was so excited about this new feature; I wanted to test it for myself. Initiating a two-way video chat couldn’t be easier. Press the video chat button and away we went. It took maybe 10 or 15 seconds to connect and there was my new friend Andrea from Samsung ready to assist me with my troubles. How great is that? She helped solve my problem with ease. It was so cool seeing a face to my tech support helper!

Samsung’s Samsung+ App is totally 100% Tommy Approved and is a great reference tool for even the most advanced of users. I highly recommend taking a closer look.

TommyLog TECH – Spring Cleaning Your Android Device #VZWBuzz #ad

Hey kids it’s Tommy and for today’s TommyLog tech, I want to talk about spring cleaning your Android device. Is your device running low on storage space? Running slow compared to when it was brand new? Chances are you need to do some spring cleaning on it. I have a few easy steps to clearing out some space and hopefully speeding up that device.

Tip #1 – Remove old photos and space hogging videos. Before you do, make sure they are backed up – in more than one location – Google photos – Dropbox, One Drive, Verizon Cloud. And double check from another source before you delete – just to be extra sure it’s all there. Undeleting your precious photos and videos is difficult, so an extra double check could never hurt.

Tip #2 – Clear out old apps or move then to your SD card. I download a lot of apps and then forget all about them moments later. Take some time to look at your app listing and delete, delete delete! If there are some that you really need, and you have an internal SD card, chances are high you can move them to the SD card. If you go to Settings | Storage, there you will find a listing of all your apps and their respective file sizes. From there you can move the apps you want to your SD card freeing up storage if needs be.

Tip #3 – Remove junk preferences and cache files. Modern day operating systems make loads and loads of junk files. They are “supposed” to auto purge, but sometimes do not and over time, these files can take up a good deal of space and slow down you system. Take a moment to download one of these free apps to help you clean out the junk from your phone. You’ll be amazed as to how much storage space is taken up by these junk files.

Tip #4- Do a factory reset your phone. If you’d rather not bother with all the tips above, you can just do like I like to do, and do a factory restore of your phone. Its super easy and take only a few minutes. What takes time is re-downloading all your apps, photos and other data, but that is pretty automated. To do a factory restore – go to Settings | Backup & Reset |Factory Data Reset.

NOTE: Please verify you have a valid backup before doing a factory restore. I would hate to have someone lose all there data by not having a good backup before hand.

BONUS TIP – Get a new case. Seriously few things refresh your outlook on your cell phone like a nice new case. Cases are cheap these days even for flagship phones. Find a fun color or pattern that fits your personality and go wild!

TommyLog TECH – Logitech ConferenceCam Connect #logitech

Hey kids, it’s Tommy and for today’s TommyLog Tech I would like to show you around and review the latest piece of technology to the TommyLog TECH labs – The Logitech ConferenceCam Connect.

From the moment I opened the ConferenceCam Connect, I fell in love with it and so did my daughter Emma. She called it a “Tech Multi-Tool” and I could not agree more. You will be hard pressed to find all these great features in one place.
