Thank you for giving your life to make us safer.

Hey kids, it’s Dad. For today’s Tommylog, I have to tell you about a situation that happened last night. Last night in downtown Appleton there was an incident where first responders responded to somebody in distress. One thing led to another, which led to another, and shots were fired, one firefighter is dead. I had the opportunity of watching the processional of police and fire professionals drive down College Avenue as they took the body to the funeral home. What a very very sobering experience. Watching fire truck after fire truck drive down College Avenue.

I can’t help but think of this great firefighter. He knew that during his lifetime he would put himself in harm’s way. He knew he would be in danger. He took the job to run towards danger not to run away from it. He died doing what he loved to do. He put himself between danger and the people of Appleton.

Thank you for giving your life to make us safer.
