TommyLog – Social Media Learning & Sharing

This week has been a big social media week for me. I’m planning a few speeches for events in the coming weeks and today was the new North Social Media Breakfast. One thing that has been on my mind lately is when to charge and when to give it away for free. It is a tough topic to tackle and one that I do take seriously.

What are your thoughts on the topic of social media sharing and charging for your knowledge?

Red Shoes Speaks No. 68 Social Media Slip-ups

Tom and Sara discuss recent stories of PR agencies getting fired after negative tweets went out. A member of the Chrysler team inadvertently posted a highly controversial tweet from the corporate account instead of his private account. The Redner Group intentionally posted a negative tweet on behalf of their client 2K, causing the agency to be let go from the gaming corporation. Lesson learned: quadruple-check your tweets, especially if your job depends on it!

Red Shoes Speaks No. 65 Social Selling & Etsy

Jess & Tommy talk about an article in INC magazine on the online home made / vintage selling site Etsy. Anyone can launch and sell on etsy.com but if you grow too large and have to outsource the production of such goods, you can not sell on the site any longer. Jess then turns the discussion to social selling and the “sell at home” marketplace. Makes you think how important social media and relationships are to the selling and buying process. Do you take recommendations for friends and family before you make purchasing decisions? Please be part of the discussion. Use #redshoespeaks in twitter or comment below!

What Were You Doing when you Heard the News?

What were you doing when you heard the news of the death of Osama Bin Laden? I was on the couch watching DVR‘d shows when I saw the The POTUS was having an emergency press conference come across my twitter feed! WOW!!. I immediately tuned to the cable news shows to see what was happening. While they were trying to make sense of it all..across my twitter stream came UNCONFIRMED: BIN LADEN DEAD! HOLY COW!!! The scoop was on twitter and not the news channels.

Where were you on 9/11 when you heard the news of the terrorist attacks? I’ll never forget that day as I’ll never forget where I was last night, May 1st 2011 when I heard the news…
