small Part – Big Problems

Hey kids, it’s Dad. Wow-what a week. Three back to back 12 hour plus workdays, but the end is in sight. I’m thankful for you and for all the support you give me. For today’s Tommylog, I wanted to take the car issue full circle. Just to bring you back a week or so ago I had battery issues with the car.

What I don’t fully think I understood was the fact that if your battery is shot, or if there’s no battery in the car, the car won’t physically run. I get it there without a battery it won’t start, but if the battery isn’t in good condition the car won’t even stay running. You are dead in the water. A $50 battery will keep your $5000, $10,000 or multi-million dollar vehicle from even starting.

It’s amazing how such a small part can have such an integral role in your success. Without a battery, you can’t keep the car running.

Kids, it’s important to have a backup plan. I always travel with jumper cables in my trunk. But if the battery is shot, only putting out 10 Volts. Then the whole operation comes to a screeching halt. Kinda like the story where the lion, not elephant as I said in the video–had a thorn in his foot. The something as simple as walking came to a screeching halt until the thorn was pulled from his foot. Amazing what a small thing and the damage that can do.

Dead Battery Adventure

Hey kids, it’s Dad. For today’s Tommylog, I want to tell you a story about a dead battery. For the last few weeks, I could tell that the battery in the Accord was having issues. You can kind of tell. Harder to start that kind of stuff. Well, this weekend the battery completely died. It made it to church and back…God is watching! But other than that, it was no go!

My good buddy Mark lent me his battery tender. Are used it all weekend long, but it still wouldn’t start this morning. Drew and I got in the car expecting it to start up but boom nothing.

Drew and I got out of the car and I told him we can do one of two things. We can walk to school or I can get you an Uber. He wasn’t too thrilled about having a stranger drive him to school. So we walked. We had a little adventure. Sometimes you get lemons, what do you do? You make some awesome lemonade.

TommyLog TECH – PowerSkin PoP’n2 Battery Charger

PoP'n2 Battery RechargerHey kids, for today’s TommyLog Tech, I want to introduce you to the Pop’n Battery Charger model 4000 from my friends at PowerSkin.

The Pop’n2 is unlike other rechargeable batteries on the market today. You have either external batteries that need to be tethered to your USB charging cables or the other style is where the added battery storage is built into an external case. Each style has its pluses and minuses –but the PoP’n2 is completely different. The PoP’n2 suction cups itself to the back of your iPhone. It comes with a totally ingenious lightning connector to connect the battery to your iPhone. The suction cups do a great job holding the battery in place. You have to really pry the battery apart from the phone. It’s a lot more secure than it appears.

The Pop’n2 has a 4000 mAh lithium polymer battery. Compared with your 1810 mAh that’s inside the iPhone 6, PowerSkin says you recharge you iPhone 6 1 ½ times per charge. I saw a little better than that, but your mileage will very. The build quality of the Pop’n2 is excellent.

The PoP’n2 comes with a micro USB cable for charging the battery as well as a clear iPhone 6 case to use if you don’t already have one. The clear case isn’t anything special and doesn’t give you much more protection than against simple bumps and scratches. You certainly do not need to use the case as the PoP’n2 works just fine suctioning to the back of a bare iPhone. I even found it fits my old IPhone 5 and 5S models just fine too. I also found that the battery suctions to many different iPhone cases I tried, so replacing your pricy case may not need to happen.

The Pop’n2 by PowerSkin is totally Tommy Approved and is part of my tech arsenal when on the road or away from power for an extended period of time.
