TommyLog – The Note!

Hey Kids it’s dad, and for today’s TommyLog I want to talk to you about a note I received in my mailbox. I’m going to my mailbox and I see bills, bills, bills, catalog, bills, ** folded sheet of paper** bills, bills bills, bills, catalog. I look at my other mail and then I focus on this piece of paper folded in half.

Inside was a handwritten note. It says

“I thought you should know, there’s a convicted child molester living in the neighborhood. It then goes on to give his name and address. It ended- sincerely a concerned citizen”

As a parent how do you handle this? I love my neighbors. I have a great relationship with them. They are so nice to me and I try to be so nice to them. And for some reason, this didn’t alarm me the way I think it would alarm some people.

This person has been labeled. I don’t want to add insult to injury. I want to treat him with the respect he deserves. But I’m not sure how I’m gonna handle this.

What would you do?

TommyLog – A Beautiful Guy Who Showed Everyone Respect

Hey Kids it’s dad and for today’s TommyLog want to tell you about a wonderful message I received yesterday from a high school friend. This message came to me before I woke up and was right there as I checked my morning email. I just hit the moon when I read these words.

A little backstory is needed. Back in the 60’s and 70’s my father owned a liquor store called CLIFFORD’s liquors. My buddy Bob just became head manager at a liquor store not far away from where my dad had his store. Okay here’s the message.

“Hi Tom- quick story I wanted to share… Had the opportunity to become store manager of Century Wine & Liquor, a job I’ve been in less than a month and absolutely love. The best part is the team I am working with and learning from. One gentleman is a real character- Frank Cesolani… In his late 70’s, he is in every morning by 7:15 and we have already fallen into a groove of having coffee in my office first thing while I check morning email and he tells me stories about his early years in the industry when he did deliveries for a distributor before he worked for Sherwood Deutsch at Century. Yesterday he was rattling through how this or that store owner in the day were real jerks (though his language is more colorful) and then suddenly says “but just up the road from here was Tommy Clifford, now there’s a beautiful guy who showed everyone respect” obviously a family trait… Hope all is going well. …”

“…now there’s a beautiful guy who showed everyone respect.” Thank you Dad for this wonderful example. Just think after 40 years he still remembers. What an amazing legacy! Goes to show you that everyone is watching and you never know who you will touch! Thank you Bob for this message!

TommyLog – Building Good Sportsmanship!

Hey Kids it’s Dad – – and for today’s Tommy log I’m joined with my great buddy Drew. Drew is just such a ray of sunshine and I love him so very much.

We had the opportunity to go to Tommy’s cross country meet today. It was an beautiful day at Kimberly high school and amazing day for the Little Chute High School cross country  team. So awesome to watch him run and watch him excel. One of the best parts of the race was being able to cheer on the other racers. It doesn’t matter what school they go to or if we know them or not.  Each and everyone of those racers was giving it their all. We wanted to be their cheer-leading squad.

Now out of full disclosure, I think we cheered a little bit louder and longer for Tommy – – but you know how that goes.  It’s such a pleasure to watch Tommy and his element into watch him do what he loves to do.

Good sportsmanship must be a part of every sports activity. Teaching good sportsmanship is important. Making sure the kids as well as the parents show good sportsmanship is so key.

TommyLog – How Relationships Mold You!

Hey kids, it’s Dad and for today’s TommyLog I want to talk about how relationships mold you and how important they are in your life.

It’s all about relationships! Never forget that!

TommyLog – Extra Hour a Day!

Hey Kids it’s dad. and for today’s TommyLog I want to celebrate the one-month anniversary of me being unemployed. I have to admit I was super scared at first – – I didn’t let on but I was scared. You’re always scared when you’re forced to do it on your own. No one likes it when the rug is pulled out from underneath you, but you know what we’re doing it.

One month into it, the Clifford family is above water and taking a look at what’s going on it’s pretty amazing. The thing that I love the most is the extra time that I get with kids. Previously I was leaving home at about 10 after seven it wouldn’t get home until well after 5 o’clock. Some days 6 o’clock some days 7 o’clock. That time adds up. Now each day I get to drop the kids off at school. I don’t drop the kids till 8-8:10am. So I get about an extra hour a day minimum with the kids.

That’s huge!!

Spending extra time with your kids is amazing. What would you do with an extra hour with your kids a day?

I love you kids.
