A Friend Through Many Lifetimes –Mr Taylor

Hey kids, it’s Dad. For today’s Tommylog, I wanna talk to you about my old friend Pat Taylor. Pat Taylor and I met almost 20 years ago when I was running a prepress department at Banta. Pat helped me install some digital infrastructure in our server room. Pat was co-owner of a company called Proactive Technologies in Dallas Texas. One thing led to another, led to another and I found myself in Dallas, in his home, breaking bread with him and his beautiful family. He welcomed me into his home like his own. This is how Pat operated. It’s amazing how friendships like that can flourish. He has always been an avid writer. I love reading what he writes. Because we’ve met in person, when I read what he writes, I hear it in my mind in his voice.

Several years ago, Pat sold his stake in the business and decided to cross the Rocky Mountains by himself on foot. He kind of became a mountain man. His nickname is “Texas Yeti”. He now lives in a remote mountain ranch in North Idaho. he has written a few books, one of which I just ordered and can’t wait to read. One thing I love about Pat Taylor is the fact that he forges his own road. Does it his way. Others may have done it before, but darn it, Pat’s going to do it his way. Pat has a love for life! When you’re around Pat, you cannot help but have a good time. Laughter and amazing stories are the order of the day. We need more of that in our life.

The world needs more Pat Taylors!

How Wonderful are Grandparents

Grandma has been here for a month and grandpa for the past 2 weeks and its been a wonderful time. Both G&G Cunningham just rock. Walks with the kids, ice cream trips, laundry and last night, steaks on the grill. YUM! What a blessing they are to the life of our family!

The Impact of Baby Eden

A few days ago, Becky brought to my attention a family in her hometown of Idaho and their 1.1 micro premie Eden. Baby Eden Swenson was born on December 28th. Eden was only 23 weeks. 4 months early, boy that little one just wanted to meet mom and dad. Becky and I kept tabs on Baby Edens progress via a blog that was set up. Daily we would check the progress of that little one. Neither Becky nor I have ever met the parents, Jeremy and Rachel, but their strength is amazing. My daughter Clara was born 6 premature. She had to spend a few days in the NICU here in Wisconsin and I saw some pretty small people in there, but I do not recall seeing anyone this small.

Today during lunch, Becky IM’d me to say that Eden had passed. Against all odds, Eden held on for 10 long days. My heart was ripped in two. I had to close my door at work and just let the tears stream down my face. I admit it I’m a softie when it comes to children. How can a family in Wisconsin be so touched by a little girl in Idaho. How does that happen?

During my drive to get the kids for what I call “big kid weekend” I vlogged about Baby Eden and the impact in my life.

Then tonight when I came home and saw the good-bye posting, WOW, it hit me again. I had to just pick up Baby Drew and hug him tight. I wish I had the right words…but are there really right words for this situation? I know of no Hallmark cards that can help.

Baby Eden, you certainly must have been a choice spirit to only need 10 days on this earth. Oh how blessed you are!! Heavenly Father must have a lot for you to do to prepare for the rest of us! What a special family to help you on your short journey. Till we meet again!

Clifford Kid Lunch with Grandparents from Idaho

Sorry this is so late posting. Lots of sick kids and trips out of town…

Grandma and Grandpa Cunningham are in from Boise and the Clifford’s are off to a HUGE lunch at O’Charlies. Tommy shows off some of his mad Rubik’s cube skills for all of us… Love it when the whole family is together.
