Do The Hardest Things First!

Hey, kids, it’s Dad. and for today’s Tommylog I need to share with you a story. Dad’s snowblower is getting old. It was probably 10 or 15 years old before I got it. I’ve had it for a good five or six years. It’s rusted and worn. The lower body had been re-welded together and the gas lines and auger cable have all been changed. The engine runs strong but the carburetor needs attention. Well, today it finally died.

But that’s really not much of a story. At our house, we live on a busy street with a snowplow bill snow up at the end of the driveway. Today I was impressed to do the end of the driveway before I did most of the driveway. I also felt impressed to do some of the high snowdrifts close to the garage. The snowblower does a wonderful job sending the snow up and over our fence that separates our yards. After all the hard stuff was done, I started to clean the sidewalk of the neighbor. I routinely clean my neighbor’s sidewalks. If I’m going to be out I might as will help somebody else. Well, wouldn’t you know what the transmission cable gave out while I was cleaning the sidewalk.

For a minute I felt bummed and disappointed that the snowblower gave out so close to the end of the workday. But then I remembered. The good Lord had me do the hardest part first. I was thankful. I was thankful for the help the snowblower gave me. It’s amazing how these tiny little life lessons can really help and make a difference. If for a second we think that the Lord isn’t paying attention, we are not listening!

Kids, do the hard stuff first. Once you do that everything else is easy!

The Company You Keep!

Hey, kids, it’s Dad. and for today’s Tommy log I want to talk to you about my 50th birthday party and all the amazing friends I have.
It makes me quite emotional thinking about all the wonderful people that surround me and take care of me.

In Proverbs 13 verse 20 it says “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.”

Translated into today’s speak – “You will be known by the company you keep.”

I am so blessed!!! Thank you for being my friends!
