TommyLog – Holiday Traditions With Special Guest Emma!

Today I welcome Emma to the TommyLog studios to talk about holiday traditions and what we are thankful for this Thanksgiving holiday. Emma wants loads of comments so we can to a video reply to answer all the comments. GO!

TommyLog – Why Bad Things Happen?

Yesterday was September 11th with all the commemoration that goes into the 13th anniversary of that tragic event. Emma, who is 7 and wasn’t even thought about back in 2001, had an experience in school that really touched her…to the point of tears. Yesterday at school they watched a video about PS 234 and the impact 9/11 had on that school. She was just so moved by the video. This morning she asked “Dad, why do bad things happen?”

TommyLog – Paying it Forward – Blue Harbor Style

Spent the past weekend on a mini vacation with the whole family at Blue harbor Resort in Sheboygan, WI. What a treat to be away with my most favorite people in the whole world.

For today’s TommyLog I want to focus on what happened last night.
While eating dinner, we were approached by this elderly gentleman holding some hand crafted wooden toys — he gave one to Drew. Drew was just so excited to see this wooden helicopter. I could see this man had a red gym bag and it looked to be full of wooden toys. He proceeded to go around the restaurant handing out wooden toys to all the little girls and boys in the place. WOW oh WOW! This guy was just awesome.

Because Emma was in the bathroom when Drew got his toy, Emma thought she had missed out… But No way–the elderly man had his eyes on and knew when Emma returned and walked over to give her a bunny rabbit toy. How cool is that?

After some research we found a newspaper article on the names Jack Brill and how he gives out wooden toys wherever he goes. Stunning!

Well the coolest part was what my son Tommy said next. He leaned in and said in a whisper, “We should pay for their dinner.” What an excellent idea and one that we followed. I love that Tommy had the “Pay it Forward” spirit and knew when the time was right. What a blessing Tommy is to our family!

TommyLog TECH – Emma’s Take – Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 – 2014 edition #VZWbuzz #AD

Today for TommyLog TECH I’ve teamed up with my little 7-year-old daughter Emma to play with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 — 2014 edition from Verizon.

The first feature that I set up for Emma was the user account feature. You can set up accounts and restrict access to certain apps, so just the apps Emma wants are on her home screens. NOTE: Not all apps run property with user accounts set up. Apps like Gmail and Google syncing only work on the main “admin” account and not sub user accounts.

One of the built-in apps on the Galaxy Note 10.1 that Emma was just drawn to is the camera app. She takes pictures of everything around the inside and outside for the house including a huge load of selfies. The camera app of the Note 10.1, with built in photo editor abilities to add filters, effects, and draw on the screen with the S Pen, is a huge bonus for Emma and her creative skills

The last aspect of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Emma loves is the YouTube app. Emma is a HUGE lover of YouTube and searching for new content. One thing that Emma noticed immediately about the YouTube app on the Note 10.1 that differentiated it from the YouTube app on her iPad mini was the search capabilities. When you search, it starts giving you suggestions with each character that you type. This makes finding what she wants- as a new speller- easier and quicker!

Emma says that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 — 2014 edition from Verizon is totally Tommy Approved!
