More Than Just Waffles!

Note: this video got delayed due to Tommy’s gallbladder surgery. I posted that video before this one. Enjoy.

Hey kids, it’s Dad. For today’s Tommylog I want to talk to you about something that happened this morning. It was really a pretty amazing moment. Christmas morning. The house is full of kids. Excitement abounds. It was amazing that this was the first Christmas that didn’t start at like 5:30 or 6 o’clock in the morning. We all slept to a reasonable hour, got up to open gifts.

But after opening gifts I told everybody we were going to make waffles. I was so excited. A few weeks prior I was at a friends house and saw they had this awesome double-sided waffle maker. Very similar to those you see at hotels. It was reasonably priced so I got it. This morning we had our first “Full Clifford waffle breakfast”.

And as I was making waffles, we’re listening to Christmas music and I heard all the laughing and playing and giggling and I got emotional. Fancy that! Thinking to myself, this is what it’s all about! This is what family is all about!

So as we all sat around the table, partaking in waffles, I thought to myself, this is more than just waffles.

This is family!

14 Years of Awesome!

Hey, kids, it’s Dad. For today’s TommyLog I want to talk to you about a major milestone in my life. Today is my 14th wedding anniversary with my sweetheart Becky. 14 years together. What an amazing accomplishment!

Over the last 14 years, I’ve learned a lot about marriage. Here are some of the things I’ve learned

Number 1 is communication. If you don’t communicate, the relationship is dead. Number 2, always say I love you. Number 3 find middle ground and try to work together. Number 4, always say I’m sorry.

These for keys to success have helped make it 14 years. I love you, Becky, more and more every day.

I GOT A FULL TIME JOB!!

Hey, kids, it’s Dad. What an amazing Thanksgiving we had! And we had extra helpings of blessings poured on the family at this time. The cat is out of the bag. It’s time to let everybody know!

I GOT A FULL-TIME JOB!!!

I excepted an offer with a company called Esko. I will be a solutions architect working on their brand on her team. I will be focusing my time and energy on a piece of software called web center. I could not be more excited.

I was laid off August 16, 2016. It has been almost 475 days. I have so many people and companies to be thankful for. The Quotient Group, Brand Outcomes, World HeadQuarters, Appleton Steel, and FitFluential. All these amazing companies help support the Clifford family as I tried to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. Chad, Shelly, Brenda, Kelly, Craig, Kim – – thank you for your love and support. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for allowing me to use my current skills, build some new skills and delight your customers. I appreciate the faith you put in me!

I did it! I did it! I DID IT!!!

Thank you to all my cheerleaders! Thank you to my wife and family as well as extended family for putting up with me! I love you all.

TommyLog – The Power to Connect People @DerreckKayongo #SITsum

Hey Kids it’s dad, and for today’s TommyLog I want to talk to you about a super powerful event that I just attended. I have been able to participate in a social influencers travel summit put on by the Atlanta Convention and visitors Bureau here in Atlanta Georgia. This is the second year I’ve been able to participate and I am just so blessed. The people I have met here are truly life-changing.

This morning I was tired after a busy busy week but I decided to go and hear the keynote speaker. The keynote speaker that was brought in was named Derreck Kayongo. He is a former Ugandan refugee turned CEO of the Center for Civil and Human Rights. He started a company called the global soap initiative. Where they took single use soaps from Hotels and repurposed those soaps to be sent over to Africa to towns that don’t have good hygiene. Over in Africa soap is a luxury  and many deaths can be attributed to poor hygiene.

Derek is a connector. What caught me off guard was a song that he saying at the end of his speech called Moyodi. Here’s a video I found  that shows the song —- https://youtu.be/S9ojgq1URlI

Just a simple yet powerful song. As you know I’m not much of a sap (enter eye roll here) but for some reason this really did it for me. Maybe it’s been the outpouring of love for the Clifford family since I lost my job. Maybe it’s the new friends that I met here in Atlanta. I’m not sure but it really got me. Totally had me in tears.

Kids – – it’s all about the connections. It’s all about leaving a situation better than it was when you got there. It’s all about doing things for other people. It’s all about putting somebody else first. I promise you when you put other people first, that does not mean you will be last!
