In the survey of almost 2,000 ad executives, brand managers and academics by online magazine Brandchannel, Apple ousted search engine Google from last year’s top spot as the fifth most influential brand. However, Apple was not always a success though: MLAgazine have compiled 10 of the most notable products released by Apple or its comrades that failed.

This is the sort of sharp-eyed reporting (and reading) I get a kick out of: somebody spotted a placeholder gif on Apple’s Powerbook page labeled “apple_g5_powerbook.” The Register then walks us through all the shortness of breath, denial, acceptance, and ultimately empty promise that those two little characters engender. Could that mean the next Powerbook revision isn’t going to be a souped-up G4 from Freescale (which is certainly what my money has been on), but instead the lusted-after G5? One thing is certain: Apple is really behind getting the next model of Powerbook to market.
